About This Plant
Rhododendron 'Catawbiense Boursault' (6-/violet), 'Catawbiense Boursault', is valued for its spring flower trusses, evergreen presence, and seasonal interest in shaded gardens.
Catawba Rhododendron , eastern N American mountain native; cold-hardy parent of countless modern hybrids. Large evergreen leaves and lavender-purple to pink late-spring flowers.
Part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich, acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 4 to 8. Among the most cold-hardy rhododendrons. Otherwise standard rhody care.
The Pacific Northwest native rhododendrons are Rhododendron macrophyllum (Pacific Rhododendron, Washington state flower) for evergreen woodland edges, and Rhododendron occidentale (Western Azalea) for fragrant deciduous spring bloom in damp sites.
