About This Plant
Cistus 'Sunset' (Rockrose), 'Sunset', is valued for its garden character and seasonal interest in PNW landscapes.
Rockroses (Cistus) are Mediterranean evergreens with crinkled tissue-paper flowers in pink, white, or yellow that bloom for weeks in summer. Outstanding drought-tolerant shrubs for sunny, well-drained sites.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained, lean, slightly alkaline soil. Hardy USDA Zone 8 to 10. Drought-tolerant once established; resents wet feet and rich soils. Generally trouble-free in PNW gardens with sharp drainage.
For a Pacific Northwest native shrub of similar character, consider Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape, Oregon state flower), Philadelphus lewisii (Mock Orange), or Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray) , all support native pollinators and birds.
