About This Plant
Zelkova serrata 'Village Green' (Japanese Zelkova), 'Village Green' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Japanese Zelkova , graceful vase-shaped shade tree, often planted as a Dutch-elm-disease-resistant elm substitute. Yellow to orange-red fall color and refined elm-like foliage.
Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, adaptable soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 8. Generally trouble-free; tolerates urban conditions, drought once established, and a range of soils.
For a Pacific Northwest native tree of similar character, consider Acer macrophyllum (Bigleaf Maple) for canopy, Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for spring bloom, or Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) for evergreen sculpture and red bark.
