About This Plant

Viola 'Cool Wave Mix' takes the classic pansy in a new direction: instead of forming a tidy clump, it spreads and trails up to two feet in a single season, creating a flowing carpet of cheerful blooms in a mix of colors that includes yellow, white, purple, lavender, and orange with the characteristic pansy face markings. It's bred specifically for cool-season performance, blooming most enthusiastically when temperatures are between 35 and 65 degrees, which lines up perfectly with the Oregon coast's long, mild shoulder seasons.

Plant Cool Wave Mix in early spring or fall in a spot with good light and well-drained soil. It tolerates light frost and looks fresh even after a cold snap that would flatten other bedding plants. Unlike traditional pansies that tend to go leggy and stop blooming in warm weather, Cool Wave stays floriferous longer into spring. Spent blooms don't need deadheading as the plant cleans itself well under normal conditions.

The spreading habit makes it especially versatile.
