About This Plant

Tillandsia juncea is one of the most graceful air plants available, with long, needle-like leaves that form an arching, grass-like clump from a compact central base. The leaves are dark green with a brownish base, and depending on light exposure, can develop warm bronze and burgundy tones that add depth to the overall look. Plants can range from 10 to over 20 inches across at maturity, making juncea a substantial presence among air plants. It is native to the Caribbean, Central America, and parts of South America.

Care is straightforward: soak in room-temperature water for 30 minutes once a week, shake out any water trapped at the base to prevent rot, and allow to dry fully within a few hours in a spot with good air circulation. Bright indirect light brings out the best color, and this species appreciates moderate to good humidity, which our coastal climate provides naturally. It tolerates more sun than many mesic air plants.

Display juncea mounted on driftwood, nestled in a decorative vessel without soil, or suspended in a wire or glass globe. It produces offsets (pups) over time, slowly forming a small cluster if left together.
