Tillandsia ionantha 'Rubra' (Air Plant)

Tillandsia ionantha 'Rubra' is a selected form of the ever-popular ionantha that shows richer, deeper color at bloom time. Where the standard species flushes pinkish-red, 'Rubra' is known for a more intense ruby-red blush across the inner leaves when it prepares to flower, creating a vivid display before the violet tubular blooms emerge from the center. It's a compact rosette, typically two to three inches across, making it one of the most manageable and giftable air plants available.

Care is the same as for the species: bright indirect light, a thorough soak or misting two to three times a week, and always drying upside down within four hours to prevent moisture sitting in the crown. It prefers temperatures above 50 degrees F and good air circulation. No soil, no pot, and very little fuss.

'Rubra' is perfectly suited to terrarium plantings, hanging glass globes, driftwood arrangements, and small decorative displays.
