About This Plant

Tillandsia fuchsii is one of the most delicate and ethereal-looking air plants in the genus. Its leaves are extremely fine, almost needle-thin, and radiate outward in all directions from a small central point, creating a perfectly spherical, starburst form that catches light beautifully. Dense trichomes cover every surface, giving the plant a bright silvery-white glow. Native to Mexico and Guatemala, it grows in dry, sunny conditions, and the trichome density reflects its need to capture maximum moisture from the air.

Because of its fine, densely packed leaves, fuchsii needs careful attention to drying after watering. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes, then shake vigorously and allow it to dry completely, setting it on a towel upside down or in a spot with good airflow. Water trapped in the dense leaf structure leads to rot at the center. Bright indirect light or a few hours of direct morning sun keeps it healthy and encourages blooming.

Its perfect spherical symmetry makes it exceptionally beautiful displayed in a glass globe terrarium with the top open.
