About This Plant
Tillandsia 'Califano' is a cultivated hybrid selected for its large, graceful rosette form and robust growth. The arching, strap-like leaves are covered in the fine silver trichomes characteristic of the genus, giving the plant a silvery sheen that deepens or lightens depending on its hydration state. A well-watered plant looks green-grey; a thirsty one appears almost white-silver as the trichomes stand up. The rosette opens wide and outward as the plant matures, making it one of the more architectural options in a Tillandsia collection.
Hybrids like Califano are generally well-adapted to indoor conditions, combining hardiness from multiple species. Soak weekly in room-temperature water for 20 to 30 minutes, then shake off excess moisture and allow the plant to dry completely within a few hours. Place in bright indirect light, near but not in direct window sun.
With regular fertilizing once a month during the growing season, expect it to eventually produce a showy inflorescence followed by pups.
