About This Plant

Durango Red is a French marigold with bold, semi-double flowers in deep brick red with gold edging and a warm gold eye at the center. It is part of the Durango series, which is renowned for its uniform habit, strong stems, and reliable season-long performance from late spring through frost. Plants stay compact at around 10 inches tall and spread 8 inches wide, making them ideal for front-of-border planting, mass color displays, or as filler in mixed containers.

The Durango series performs well in the Oregon coast's cool summers without the heat stress that can cause some marigolds to go leggy or stop blooming. The ferny, fragrant foliage is part of the marigold's natural pest-deterrent character, making it a useful companion plant in vegetable beds where its scent discourages aphids and other soft-bodied insects from settling in.

Durango Red excels in containers, cutting gardens, and as a long-lasting color anchor in any sunny bed. The flowers are excellent for fresh cutting and hold well in a vase. For continuous bloom, remove spent flowers regularly as the season progresses.
