Care Notes

Grow in moist, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. Prune just after flowering ends; cutting later removes next year's flower buds. Watch for powdery mildew on foliage and lilac borer on older wood; prune out affected stems. Note that cold-climate cultivars (S. vulgaris) may flower poorly in mild PNW winters.
