About This Plant
Peace Lily is one of the most reliable flowering houseplants available, producing elegant white spathes on upright stems above glossy, deep green foliage several times a year in good conditions. It has a well-deserved reputation as a forgiving plant for lower-light indoor spaces, though it rewards brighter indirect light with more frequent flowers and fuller growth.
The best practical indicator for watering a Peace Lily is the plant itself: the leaves begin to droop slightly when the soil is getting too dry, and watering at this point (rather than on a rigid schedule) gives the plant exactly what it needs. It recovers quickly from mild drought stress. Avoid overwatering and cold drafts from windows or air conditioning vents, both of which cause browning leaf tips and yellowing foliage.
Peace Lily adapts well to typical home humidity levels, though it appreciates a light misting in dry winter interiors. Wipe the leaves occasionally to remove dust, which allows the plant to photosynthesize more efficiently and keeps it looking its best. Repot every two to three years when roots begin to crowd the container. This is a plant that rewards basic care with years of steady performance and genuine elegance.
