About This Plant

Sold under the bare name Sedum Aureum, this is almost certainly Sedum acre Aureum, the golden-tipped form of biting stonecrop that is one of the most widely grown low groundcover Sedums. Vivid chartreuse-gold new growth softens to lime-green by midsummer, and small yellow star-shaped flowers top the mat in early summer. Zone 3 to 9 hardy, bee- and butterfly-friendly, deer-resistant, coastal tolerant. Forms a dense weed-suppressing carpet two to four inches tall spreading a foot or two wide. If your supplier instead calls this Sedum rupestre Aureum, the care is effectively identical, so either way you get a reliable chartreuse groundcover.

Care Notes

Sold under the bare name 'Sedum Aureum' — almost always refers to S. acre 'Aureum' (biting stonecrop, chartreuse-gold form). Occasionally the name is used for S. rupestre 'Aureum,' and very rarely for S. sarmentosum. Care is equivalent across these possibilities. Verify exact species with supplier in a later audit pass.
