About This Plant
Yellow is the rarest and most coveted color in the Schlumbergera palette, and this truncata form delivers it with some nuance: the blooms tend toward soft yellow-cream with peachy-orange tints at the tube, brightening to a purer yellow on the flared petals. The flowers appear at the tips of the serrated, flattened stem segments from late October through November, and a plant in full bloom carries dozens of blossoms at once. In a room full of the usual red and pink holiday cacti, a yellow one draws immediate attention.
Schlumbergera truncata originates in the coastal mountain forests of southeastern Brazil, growing as an epiphyte on trees rather than in soil. This explains its preference for bright indirect light, moderate moisture, and good air circulation around the roots. It is not a desert plant and should not be treated like one.
Yellow holiday cacti are particularly sensitive to bud drop from being moved or disturbed once buds are set.
