About This Plant
Sarracenia purpurea (Purple Pi), 'Purple Pi', is valued for seasonal interest and the role it plays in PNW garden borders.
Pitcher Plants are carnivorous bog perennials with extraordinary tubular trapping leaves and umbrella-like flowers. North American natives.
Full sun to part sun suits this species. Plant in wet acidic bog conditions soil. Hardy USDA Zone 6 to 9. Plant in nutrient-poor wet acidic medium (peat moss + perlite). NEVER fertilize. Use only rainwater or distilled water.
For a Pacific Northwest native perennial of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Tellima grandiflora (Fringecups), or Dicentra formosa (Pacific Bleeding Heart) , all support native pollinators.
