Care Notes

Plant in moist to average, well-drained soil. Plant two or more cultivars for better fruit set. Coppice old stems every few years to renew vigor. Watch for elderberry stem borer and spotted wing drosophila. Berries must be cooked before eating; raw berries, leaves, and stems contain cyanogenic glycosides. Protect young growth from deer.
