About This Plant

Salvia is valued for seasonal interest and the role it plays in PNW garden borders.

Salvias range from herbaceous perennials to woody shrubs, all hummingbird and pollinator favorites with abundant flower spikes through summer and fall.

Full sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 10. Cut back in late winter. Drought-tolerant once established.

For a Pacific Northwest native perennial of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Tellima grandiflora (Fringecups), or Dicentra formosa (Pacific Bleeding Heart) , all support native pollinators.
