About This Plant
Salix alba 'Niobe' (Weeping Willow), 'Niobe' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
White Willow , fast-growing large tree with long narrow silver-backed leaves. 'Tristis' (Golden Weeping Willow) and 'Britzensis' (Coral Bark Willow, coppiced for winter color) are popular forms.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in moist; tolerates wet sites soil. Hardy USDA Zone 2 to 8. Aggressive invasive shallow roots, site away from septic, drains, and foundations. Watch for canker, scab, and willow leaf beetle.
For a Pacific Northwest native tree of similar character, consider Acer macrophyllum (Bigleaf Maple) for canopy, Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for spring bloom, or Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) for evergreen sculpture and red bark.
