About This Plant

'Viennese Waltz' is a broadleaf evergreen rhododendron bred for the kind of graceful, layered bloom display its name suggests. Expect clusters of ruffled flowers in soft rose-pink tones that emerge in mid-spring, shading lighter toward the center and deepening at the margins. The foliage holds a rich dark green through all seasons, providing a clean, structured backdrop in the garden long after the blossoms have faded.

Oregon's mild, rain-rich coast is practically ideal rhododendron territory. Acidic soils, consistent moisture, and cool summers let these plants thrive with little intervention once established. 'Viennese Waltz' settles into a rounded mound over time, fitting naturally as a foundation shrub, a woodland edge specimen, or a centerpiece in a mixed evergreen border. It pairs beautifully with ferns, heucheras, and shade-tolerant natives.

Plant in dappled shade or morning sun with afternoon protection, and amend with quality acidic compost at planting time.
