About This Plant

Rhododendron occidentale (Western Azalea), 'Western Azalea', is valued for its spring flower trusses, evergreen presence, and seasonal interest in shaded gardens.

Western Azalea , PNW native deciduous azalea of damp woodland edges and streambanks. Spectacular fragrant white-and-pink flowers in late spring, often in large clusters.

Part sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich, acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 6 to 9. Loves consistent moisture and a stream-side site. Watch for root weevil and the usual ericaceous concerns.

This is a Pacific Northwest native species and contributes ecologically as a pollinator forage and habitat plant on the right site.
