About This Plant

'Mrs. Charles Pearson' is a named rhododendron with a long history and well-deserved reputation. The flowers are a soft, blush-pink with a faint lilac cast, each with a distinctive deeper purple-brown flare in the upper petals, giving the bloom a subtle complexity that sets it apart from simpler solid-pink varieties. Trusses are large and impressively full, and the plant itself is vigorous and upright.

This variety dates back over a century and has persisted in cultivation because it simply performs reliably in the cool, moist climates where rhododendrons are happiest. On the Oregon coast, where the fog and gentle rain create near-ideal growing conditions, 'Mrs. Charles Pearson' rewards gardeners with one of the finest spring displays of any rhododendron in this color range.

Like all rhododendrons, it needs well-drained, acidic soil and filtered light or morning sun for best performance. Its scale and stature make it a natural for the back of a large border or as a standalone specimen in a woodland-style garden.
