About This Plant

Rhododendron 'Martin 241' is a bold selection with rich, deep red flowers accented by distinctive dark patterning near the upper petals and striking black anthers. The vibrant blooms stand out sharply against the plant's lush, deep green foliage, which provides excellent coverage and structure throughout the year. This is a rhododendron for people who want real impact in the landscape, not a subtle background shrub.

On the southern Oregon coast, rhododendrons are in their element. The mild, moist climate, acidic soils, and filtered light under larger trees create exactly the conditions these plants evolved for. 'Martin 241' performs at its best when given protection from harsh afternoon sun and consistent moisture, especially during establishment. Once settled in, it develops into a reliable, long-lived shrub that rewards very little attention beyond occasional feeding with an acidic fertilizer.

Use it as a focal specimen in a woodland garden, in a mixed border alongside other acid-loving plants, or as a privacy screen where its dense growth and attractive foliage earn their keep year-round.
