About This Plant

Rhododendron 'Lemon Lights' (Azalea), 'Lemon Lights', is valued for its spring flower trusses, evergreen presence, and seasonal interest in shaded gardens.

Rhododendrons are signature shrubs of the Pacific Northwest , beloved for spring flower trusses in nearly every color, glossy evergreen leaves, and the layered woodland-edge presence they bring to a shaded garden.

Part shade to dappled shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich, acidic (pH 4.5 to 6.0) soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 8. Plant high , surface roots resent burial. Mulch lightly with pine fines or fir bark to keep roots cool and moisture even. Water deeply during summer dry spells. Avoid hot afternoon sun. Watch for root weevil notching, lacebug on plants in too-sunny exposure, and Phytophthora root rot in poorly drained sites.

The Pacific Northwest native rhododendrons are Rhododendron macrophyllum (Pacific Rhododendron, Washington state flower) for evergreen woodland edges, and Rhododendron occidentale (Western Azalea) for fragrant deciduous spring bloom in damp sites.
