About This Plant
'Harold's Red' is a classic Pacific Northwest rhododendron with the kind of deep crimson-red bloom that has anchored coastal Oregon gardens for generations. The trusses are large and rounded, generously sized, and the color is rich and saturated rather than bright or orange-toned, giving it a depth and formality that works particularly well in more traditional garden settings.
Rhododendrons in general are extraordinarily well-suited to the Oregon coast, and 'Harold's Red' is no exception. The naturally acidic soils, mild temperatures, and reliable moisture create conditions these plants genuinely thrive in with minimal supplemental care. Good drainage is the one non-negotiable.
After the spectacular spring bloom, 'Harold's Red' settles into a handsome, quiet presence through the rest of the year, providing structure and deep evergreen color to the border.
