About This Plant

Red Flame Celosia is a plumed annual that produces tall, feathery spikes of vivid scarlet-red in summer, bringing bold color to borders, cutting gardens, and containers from midsummer until frost. Part of the Celosia argentea plumosa group, it thrives in the warmth of a PNW summer and performs best when given full sun and consistent moisture once established. Seeds sown indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last frost date and transplanted after soil has warmed will reward you with blooms in roughly 90 to 120 days.

Celosia is a low-maintenance annual that tolerates heat well and, once blooming, keeps going without deadheading. The plume-style flowers dry beautifully for arrangements and hold their color for months. Plants grow 18 to 24 inches tall in most garden conditions. Rich, well-drained soil and regular feeding through the season encourage the densest plumes.

This is a reliable choice for pollinator gardens, as the blooms attract bees and butterflies throughout the season. Celosia is non-toxic to dogs, cats, and horses per ASPCA.
