About This Plant
Prunus × yedoensis 'Yoshino' (Flowering Cherry), 'Yoshino' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Hybrid ornamental cherry , care follows dominant parent species; most are spring-flowering small specimen trees.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 4 to 8. Watch for the usual cherry pests; short-lived.
For a Pacific Northwest native counterpart in scale and bloom, consider Amelanchier alnifolia (Saskatoon / Western Serviceberry) for white spring flowers and edible blue berries, or Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for show-stopping spring bracts in light shade.
