About This Plant
A 3-in-1 combo plum tree is one of the smartest space-saving investments you can make in a home orchard. Three compatible plum varieties are grafted onto a single rootstock, giving you cross-pollination built right into one tree and a longer, staggered harvest season instead of a single glut. Japanese and European plum types are commonly combined depending on the grower, so you get diversity in flavor, skin color, and ripening time all from one footprint in your yard.
These trees typically settle into a moderate, manageable size and respond beautifully to annual pruning that keeps the canopy open and productive. The spring bloom is a highlight in its own right: clouds of white to pale pink blossoms arrive before the leaves fully unfurl, drawing bees while the rest of the garden is still waking up. Fruit follows in summer through early fall in waves, giving you fresh plums for eating out of hand, jamming, or drying into prunes over an extended window.
On the Oregon coast, plums appreciate a protected, south-facing position that captures maximum warmth.
