About This Plant
Potentilla gracilis (Slender Cinquefoil), 'Slender Cinquefoil', is valued in PNW gardens for its character and seasonal interest.
Shrubby Cinquefoils (Potentilla fruticosa) are tough small deciduous shrubs with abundant yellow, white, pink, or orange flowers from summer through fall.
Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 2 to 7. Among the toughest small shrubs , tolerates cold, heat, drought, lean soils. Generally trouble-free.
For a Pacific Northwest native plant of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray), or Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape) , all support native pollinators and birds.
