About This Plant
Podocarpus Blue Gem is valued for its garden character and seasonal interest in PNW landscapes.
Podocarpus (Yew Pine) , evergreen conifer-allied shrub or small tree with narrow yew-like foliage. Excellent for hedges, screens, and tightly pruned topiary.
Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 7 to 10. Marginally hardy in zone 7 PNW. Generally trouble-free; tolerates pruning well.
For a Pacific Northwest native shrub of similar character, consider Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape, Oregon state flower), Philadelphus lewisii (Mock Orange), or Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray) , all support native pollinators and birds.
