About This Plant
Platanus acerfolia 'Bloodgood' (London Planetree), 'Bloodgood' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
London Plane / Sycamore , large shade tree with iconic mottled cream-and-brown peeling bark. Tough urban tolerance; widely planted as a street tree.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in deep, moist, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 4 to 9. Watch for anthracnose on stressed trees and powdery mildew. Spiny seed balls can be a nuisance.
For a Pacific Northwest native tree of similar character, consider Acer macrophyllum (Bigleaf Maple) for canopy, Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for spring bloom, or Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) for evergreen sculpture and red bark.
