About This Plant

Pistacia chinensis (Chinese Pi), 'Chinese Pi' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.

Chinese Pistache , exceptionally tough adaptable shade tree with brilliant red-orange-purple fall color. One of the best fall-color trees for hot, dry, urban sites.

Full sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained; very drought-tolerant soil. Hardy USDA Zone 6 to 9. Drought-tolerant once established. Generally trouble-free.

For a Pacific Northwest native tree of similar character, consider Acer macrophyllum (Bigleaf Maple) for canopy, Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for spring bloom, or Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) for evergreen sculpture and red bark.
