Pinus nigra (Austrian Pine) is a Pine cultivar, 'Austrian Pine', valued for its sculptural form and refined evergreen texture in the landscape.

Pines are tough, sun-loving evergreens with bundled needles and woody cones. Specimen cultivars range from globe-shaped dwarfs to weeping forms with strong sculptural presence. Long needles in bundles (fascicles) of 2, 3, or 5 depending on species; many cultivars are dwarf or weeping.

Full sun suits this species best. Plant in well-drained; tolerates poor sandy soils soil. Hardy USDA Zone 3 to 8. Watch for pine needle scale, pine wilt nematode (in susceptible species), and Diplodia tip blight. Avoid wet feet and heavy clay; pines want sharp drainage.
