About This Plant

Philodendron micans earns every bit of its cult following in the houseplant world. The heart-shaped leaves emerge with a warm bronze blush and deepen to a rich, velvety dark green as they mature, all while holding a soft sheen that changes subtly depending on the light. It is a trailing vine that looks stunning in a hanging basket, draped along a shelf, or trained up a small moss pole, and it grows quickly enough to give real satisfaction without demanding constant attention.

Care is uncomplicated. Give it bright indirect light and let the top inch or two of soil dry out between waterings. It tolerates the lower light levels typical of inland rooms but rewards better placement with faster growth and richer leaf color. As with most philodendrons, it dislikes sitting in soggy soil, so a well-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage holes are a good starting point.

Micans is a wonderful option for anyone who wants a lush, tropical look at home without a lot of fuss. It is also considered toxic to pets and people if ingested, so keep it out of reach of curious cats, dogs, and small children.
