About This Plant

Silver Stripe is a variegated form of the classic Heartleaf Philodendron, distinguished by the silvery cream stripe that runs down the center midrib and sometimes beyond into the leaf body itself. The effect is like a brushstroke of pale paint on deep green velvet. Each heart-shaped leaf is slightly different, making the vine endlessly interesting as new growth unfurls. It trails and climbs with the same easy energy as the common heartleaf, just with considerably more visual flair.

This cultivar is closely related to the popular 'Brasil' and 'Rio' varieties, sitting in the same family of multicolored heartleaf sports. It tolerates a range of indoor light conditions, though brighter indirect light brings out the strongest contrast between the silver and green zones. Let the top inch of soil dry before watering, avoid misting (excess humidity on the foliage can invite fungal issues), and feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer.

Silver Stripe looks excellent in a trailing pot on a shelf, in a macrame hanger, or trained up a slim moss pole for a more upright silhouette. It propagates readily from stem cuttings in water. Like all philodendrons, the sap is irritating and the plant is toxic to pets and children.
