About This Plant
Philodendron hederaceum, the Heartleaf Philodendron, earns its place as one of the most popular houseplants in the world through a combination of cheerful good looks and genuine adaptability. The leaves are a warm, glossy green in a classic heart shape, emerging bronze-tinted before maturing to deep emerald. New growth unfurls continuously through the growing season, and the plant climbs or trails depending on how you display it. A well-grown specimen in a hanging basket can send cascading vines three feet or more.
It's a nearly foolproof plant for indoor growing. Heartleaf Philodendron tolerates lower light better than most tropical foliage plants, making it practical for spaces that don't receive direct sun. Water when the top inch of soil is dry and let it drain fully. It's forgiving of occasional missed waterings, though consistently dry soil will lead to smaller leaves and slower growth.
It's also a classic choice for propagation: snip just below a node, place the cutting in water, and roots appear within two weeks.
