About This Plant
Ivy Geranium 'Lavender' is the go-to choice when you want soft, cool color cascading from a hanging basket or spilling over the edge of a window box all summer long. The ivy-shaped foliage is glossy and heat-tolerant, and the trailing stems can extend two to three feet, creating a lush waterfall of lavender blooms from late spring through first frost. Unlike upright geraniums, these stay compact at the base while sprawling gracefully outward.
On the Oregon coast, Ivy Geraniums thrive in our mild summers. Morning sun with some afternoon protection keeps the color saturated and the plants blooming continuously. They are self-cleaning in most conditions, which means less deadheading and more enjoyment. Pair with white bacopa or silver licorice plant for a soft, coastal container combination.
Treat as an annual outdoors, or overwinter cuttings indoors in a bright spot. Ivy Geraniums are surprisingly drought-tolerant once established in containers, though consistent moisture and a monthly liquid feed during the growing season keeps them performing at their best.
