Care Notes

Plant tubers with eyes only 1-2 inches deep; planting too deep prevents flowering. Use rich, deep, well-drained soil. Stake tall double-flowered types to keep heavy blooms upright. Divide only when necessary after 10 or more years, cutting tuber clumps with 3-5 eyes each in early fall. Ants on buds are harmless. Cut foliage to the ground after the first hard frost to prevent overwintering botrytis spores.
