About This Plant
'Iron Cross' Shamrock is one of the most distinctive bulb plants you can grow, and it's hardy enough to come back reliably year after year in the mild Oregon coast climate. The four-leaf clover-shaped foliage is bright green with a bold burgundy-purple marking in the center of each leaf that forms the distinctive cross pattern. In summer the plant produces cheerful clusters of rosy pink, trumpet-shaped flowers.
Oxalis tetraphylla grows from small bulbs that multiply gradually over time, slowly building into a wider clump. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. In Langlois, where winters are mild, the bulbs will often overwinter in the ground with minimal protection.
Use 'Iron Cross' Shamrock as a ground cover under taller perennials, as an edging plant along a path, or in a mixed container.
