About This Plant
Lemon Basil brings a bright citrus twist to the classic herb garden. The leaves carry the familiar sweet basil fragrance layered with a fresh, clean lemon note that makes it especially useful in the kitchen. It shines in fish dishes, chicken marinades, fruit salads, and herbal teas, and it pairs beautifully with mint and lemon verbena in summer drinks.
Like all basils, 'Lemon' loves warmth, full sun, and well-drained soil with consistent moisture. It's a fast grower that starts producing harvestable leaves quickly and keeps going through the season as long as you pinch it regularly and don't let it bolt. On the Oregon coast, it performs well in a warm, sheltered spot or in a container.
Fresh or dried, lemon basil holds its fragrance well and makes a lovely addition to homemade herb vinegars and infused oils.
