About This Plant

Lemon Button Fern is a miniature sword fern with a lot of personality packed into a compact size. The fronds are made up of small, rounded, button-like leaflets that give the plant a fine, delicate texture, and the whole plant carries a faint lemon scent when you brush against the foliage, a detail that makes it more interesting than its unassuming appearance suggests. It tops out around a foot in height and spreads gently, making it an ideal choice for small containers, terrariums, and shaded spots where you want fern character without fern scale.

Compared to larger nephrolepis ferns, the Lemon Button is notably more tolerant of drier indoor conditions, though it still appreciates regular moisture and benefits from humidity when you can provide it. The fronds stay lush and green in bright indirect light and will tolerate lower-light situations better than many houseplant ferns. It's a good option for bathrooms, north-facing windows, and terrariums where consistency of moisture is easier to maintain. If you've had trouble keeping other ferns happy indoors, the Lemon Button is worth a try as a more forgiving starting point.
