About This Plant
The 'Black Gold' Goldfish Plant is one of those houseplants that makes people stop and stare. Its glossy, deep green leaves have an almost lacquered quality, and the tubular orange-red flowers that pop from the leaf axils look remarkably like tiny leaping goldfish. A hybrid of Nematanthus gregarius, 'Black Gold' produces especially rich foliage coloring and blooms prolifically when given bright indirect light, making it a standout in a hanging basket or trailing off a sunny shelf.
Native to the tropical forests of Brazil, this plant grows as a vining epiphyte in the wild, so it appreciates loose, well-draining potting mix and the chance to dry out slightly between waterings. It's forgiving of the lower humidity typical of most homes and settles in quickly once it finds a bright spot away from cold drafts. Feed it lightly through the growing season and you'll be rewarded with near-continuous blooms.
For coastal gardeners in Langlois, this is a year-round indoor companion that brings vivid tropical energy to any room.
