About This Plant

Monstera deliciosa earns its common name from the dramatic holes and splits that develop in its deep green leaves as the plant matures. Young plants start with solid, heart-shaped foliage and gradually reveal the iconic perforations that make this one of the most recognizable houseplants in the world. The architectural presence it brings to a room is hard to match at any price point.

Give this tropical native bright, indirect light and it will reward you with leaves that can reach 18 inches across or more. It climbs in its natural habitat using aerial roots, so a moss pole or sturdy support encourages upright, vigorous growth indoors. Wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to keep them glossy and dust-free.

Monstera tolerates lower light better than many tropicals, though growth slows noticeably without adequate brightness. Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry between waterings and keep it out of cold drafts. With basic attention it can live for decades, growing into a genuine statement plant that fills a corner beautifully.
