Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, average to moist soil. Most apples need a cross-pollinator from the same bloom group; very few are self-fertile. For low-spray PNW gardens, choose scab-resistant and fire-blight-resistant cultivars (such as 'Liberty', 'Enterprise', 'Pristine', 'Williams Pride'). Prune in late winter or early spring. Watch for apple scab, fire blight, codling moth, and apple maggot. Protect young trees from deer browse.
