About This Plant
Magnolia 'Genie' (Genie Magnolia) is a Magnolia, a Mostly Asian (China/Japan) and Eastern N.A. species; many ornamental hybrids ornamental cultivar 'Genie'.
Showy spring or summer flowers; many cultivars bloom before leaves emerge. Most are deciduous; some (M. grandiflora) are evergreen. Site away from late frost pockets to protect early blooms.
Plant in full sun to part shade, in humus-rich, well-drained, slightly acidic; resents wet feet soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 9. Long-lived. Generally deer-resistant once established.
If you'd like a Pacific Northwest native tree with similar grace, consider Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood), Acer circinatum (Vine Maple), Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone), or Amelanchier alnifolia (Saskatoon). These provide bird food, pollinator support, and Indigenous food heritage in your landscape.
