About This Plant
Lupinus WC Persian Slipper (Lupine), 'Lupine', is valued for seasonal interest and the role it plays in PNW garden borders.
Lupines have showy tall flower spikes in blue, purple, pink, white, or yellow. Many are pacific-northwest natives or near-native species.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 4 to 8. Watch for aphids. Self-sow in happy sites. Some cultivars are short-lived.
For a Pacific Northwest native perennial of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Tellima grandiflora (Fringecups), or Dicentra formosa (Pacific Bleeding Heart) , all support native pollinators.
