About This Plant
Liriodendron tulipifera (Tulip Tree), 'Tulip Tree' is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Tulip Tree / Yellow Poplar , fast-growing eastern N American native with distinctive four-lobed leaves and large tulip-shaped greenish-yellow flowers in late spring. Brilliant gold fall color.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in deep, moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 4 to 9. Site with room, easily 70 to 90 ft. Watch for aphids and tulip tree scale.
For a Pacific Northwest native tree of similar character, consider Acer macrophyllum (Bigleaf Maple) for canopy, Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for spring bloom, or Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone) for evergreen sculpture and red bark.
