About This Plant

Ligustrum sinense 'Sunshine' (Sunshine Chinese Privet), 'Sunshine', is valued for its garden character and seasonal interest in PNW landscapes.

Privets (Ligustrum) are evergreen and semi-evergreen shrubs widely used for hedges and topiary, with white spring flower panicles and black berries.

Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 10. INVASIVE WATCH: L. sinense, L. vulgare, L. lucidum are invasive in many parts of the US , less aggressive in PNW but worth siting carefully.

For a Pacific Northwest native shrub of similar character, consider Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape, Oregon state flower), Philadelphus lewisii (Mock Orange), or Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray) , all support native pollinators and birds.
