About This Plant

Leucothoe keiskei Opstal (Ha), 'Ha', is valued for its garden character and seasonal interest in PNW landscapes.

Leucothoe (Doghobble) , graceful arching evergreen shrub with cascading branches, glossy leaves that turn bronze-red in fall and winter, and pendulous white spring flower clusters.

Part shade to dappled shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 5 to 8. Plant in acidic, humus-rich soil; mulch to keep roots cool. Watch for leaf spot in humid conditions.

For a Pacific Northwest native shrub of similar character, consider Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape, Oregon state flower), Philadelphus lewisii (Mock Orange), or Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray) , all support native pollinators and birds.
