About This Plant
Leptospermum scoparium 'Wiri Sh', 'Wiri Sh', is valued for its garden character and seasonal interest in PNW landscapes.
Tea Trees (Leptospermum) are Australian / New Zealand evergreens with fine needle-like foliage and spectacular spring displays of small white, pink, or red flowers. Outstanding coastal shrubs for sunny well-drained sites.
Full sun suits this species. Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 8 to 10. Marginally hardy in zone 8 PNW; site in warmest, most sheltered exposure. Drought-tolerant once established. Generally trouble-free.
For a Pacific Northwest native shrub of similar character, consider Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape, Oregon state flower), Philadelphus lewisii (Mock Orange), or Holodiscus discolor (Oceanspray) , all support native pollinators and birds.
