About This Plant
Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen' is a three-color plant in the best possible way. The thick, waxy leaves carry deep green centers edged with creamy white to pink margins, and new growth emerges in a vivid rosy pink that slowly transitions as the leaf matures. In bright indirect light the pink tones in the variegation intensify, giving established plants a genuinely striking appearance across all stages of new growth at once. The stems trail or climb and can grow quite long over time, making this a good candidate for a hanging basket, shelf display, or trained up a small support.
As with all Hoyas, this one rewards patience. Growth is steady rather than fast, but each new leaf is a small event worth noticing. Given time and good light, mature vines will produce clusters of waxy, star-shaped flowers with a sweet fragrance, one of the quiet pleasures of growing Hoyas long-term. The thick succulent-like leaves handle some drought better than most tropical houseplants, which makes it forgiving of an uneven watering schedule. A collector favorite that holds its own as a display plant even before it flowers.
