About This Plant
Hosta Dream Queen is valued for seasonal interest and the role it plays in PNW garden borders.
Hostas are the iconic shade-garden perennial, prized for sculptural mounding foliage in countless cultivars (blue, gold, variegated, miniature to giant) and lavender or white late-summer flower spikes.
Part shade to full shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Hardy USDA Zone 3 to 8. Mulch well to retain moisture. Watch for slug damage , a serious PNW issue. Deer browse heavily; protect with cages or repellent.
For a Pacific Northwest native perennial of similar character, consider Aquilegia formosa (Western Red Columbine), Tellima grandiflora (Fringecups), or Dicentra formosa (Pacific Bleeding Heart) , all support native pollinators.
